Bizen ware of a tokkuri (sake bottle) and two sake cups

Bizen Pottery is the oldest pottery among the Six Old Kilns of Japan.

The Ibe district of Bizen City is the representative production area.
It is characterized by firing at high temperatures without glaze or painting.

It is called "Hidasuki" because of its bright red (scarlet) coloring, which resembles a colored tasuki.

This pattern is made of rice straw. Originally, straw was wrapped around the pieces to prevent them from sticking to each other when they were packed in the kiln, and it is now used as a pattern.

The pattern of red, brown, vermilion, and other colors in a "tasuki" pattern on a light brown base gives the piece an even more atmospheric appearance.
