Description

What is a Pochibukuro?
A Pochibukuro is a small decorative envelope traditionally used in Japan for gifting money, small notes, or tokens of appreciation. These envelopes are often used for special occasions such as New Year's celebrations, weddings, and other moments when giving a small but thoughtful gift is customary. The name "Pochibukuro" originates from the Kansai dialect, meaning "a little something," reflecting its purpose as a subtle yet meaningful gesture of gratitude or goodwill.

This set includes three beautifully designed Pochibukuro envelopes, each adorned with elegant Yuzen Washi patterns inspired by Edo-period craftsmanship. The envelopes feature historical Japanese figures such as Sei Shōnagon, Murasaki Shikibu, Abe no Seimei, Fujiwara no Michinaga, and Shōshi, adding a refined touch to your gift-giving. The intricate Yuzen patterns bring a vibrant and sophisticated aesthetic, elevating any small present with a luxurious feel.

About Yuzen Washi – A Touch of Traditional Japanese Art
Yuzen Washi is a type of traditional Japanese paper inspired by Yuzen dyeing techniques, renowned for their intricate and colorful patterns. The history of Yuzen dates back to the Edo period, when extravagant embroidery with gold and silver threads was banned under the Sumptuary Laws. In response, artisans developed Yuzen dyeing, a technique that allowed for vibrant, detailed patterns resembling paintings, thus circumventing the restrictions. The technique was named after Miyazaki Yūzensai, a Kyoto-based artist known for his pioneering work in textile dyeing.

Today, Yuzen Washi carries on this artistic legacy, blending delicate patterns with rich cultural history, making it an ideal choice for special occasions and heartfelt expressions of gratitude.
