All-Natural. Eat and Smile! Eat and Stay Healthy!
The ingredients used are exclusively domestic, including roasted seaweed from Ariake and green laver (aosa) from Ise-Shima. This product is completely additive-free and contains no artificial sweeteners, synthetic colorings, preservatives, fish extracts, or agar.
Driven by the desire to share "truly delicious tsukudani," we carefully select the finest ingredients to create a flavor you’ll never grow tired of. To ensure the seaweed’s rich flavor is at its peak when shipped, every step of the production process is performed by hand.
Creating something delicious starts with selecting the best ingredients. We strive to provide high-quality, nutritious ingredients at an affordable price. Choosing quality ingredients not only enhances flavor but also ensures safety and health.
As raw seaweed can only be digested by Japanese people, this product is made with roasted seaweed to be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of nationality. Seaweed is highly nutritious and even retains its Vitamin C, which is known to be heat-sensitive.
This product is ideal for those with smaller appetites, as it allows for easy intake of nutrients in small amounts. It’s also versatile and can be used in various dishes. It features a distinct spicy kick from chili peppers.
Note: The "Ichijo" variety does not contain chili peppers, making it perfect for mixing with your favorite condiments like wasabi or mustard for a unique flavor experience.
The base flavor of this tsukudani is reminiscent of "mom’s cooking." It is inspired by the homemade seaweed tsukudani prepared by the representative’s mother during childhood, with a modern twist added.
The product name "Kyudai" is taken from the representative’s mother’s name. Born in 1926 as a premature baby weighing very little, Kyudai was told by doctors she only had a week to live. However, as she survived beyond that week, her father named her "Kyudai" wishing for her to "live long and strong regardless of the era."
"Ichijo" is the name of the representative’s father, who founded the company. The name was chosen as a way to honor and preserve his legacy. The company’s name and tsukudani reflect gratitude for the parents’ love and dedication.
"In May 2024, we were honored with the Grand Prix Award in the Japan Food Selection, achieving double awards."
The Japan Food Selection, hosted by the Food Analyst Association, is Japan’s first certification system for food and ingredients. Products undergo five rigorous evaluation stages: document review, survey, preliminary screening, secondary screening, and final screening, involving input from 23,000 certified food analysts.
Awards are determined across five categories: Grand Prix, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Encouragement Awards. Products must achieve an exceptionally high score of 90 out of 100 points across 100 evaluation criteria, including taste, safety, branding, and packaging, to be awarded the Grand Prix.
About Us
Kyudai was founded in 2001 as a contract IT-related service provider. We then drastically downsized our IT business and started manufacturing and selling tsukudani (food simmered in soy sauce) in 2020. We have established in-house infrastructure for the production of nori tsukudani (toasted nori seaweed simmered in soy sauce), which is handmade using 100% domestically sourced ingredients.
Our corporate philosophy is “To enrich the lives of all parties involved” and “To bring smiles to the faces of our customers.” Our products are named after the parents of our CEO, as a token of gratitude. A facility for people with special needs is also involved in their production.
Based on our motto of “Eat for happiness! Eat for health!”, it is our hope that food will contribute to enriching people’s lives.
